Mind Joy
An AI-supported mental health app for midlife, with gentle onboarding, guided journaling, mood check-ins, sessions with coaches and a growth journey.
Overview
Mind Joy is a mental health app for people in midlife, from a UK start-up, combining AI tools with evidence-based support. It offers personalised guidance, a way to track emotional wellbeing, and access to professional coaches. It starts by asking what brings someone to the app, such as burnout, career crossroads, health, parenting, feeling invisible, identity or grief, and shapes the experience around the answer.
My role
Product Designer, working as UX Design Specialist with the company’s stakeholders and developers. I designed the app’s UX and UI from wireframes to final screens, used the product documentation and analytics to inform decisions, and argued for user-centred choices along the way.
Design approach
- Wireframes. The flows were laid out in wireframes first (onboarding, journal, explore, progress, coach profile), then carried into the final design screen for screen.
- One question per screen, no pressure. Onboarding asks one thing at a time, offers “just exploring” as an answer, and lets people skip or be reminded later.
- Writing made easy. Every journal prompt has voice input and an AI suggestion button next to the text field. After saving, Mind Joy reflects back and suggests one small step.
- Kind feedback. Check-ins end with an illustrated affirmation (“Small progress is still progress”, “You are not alone”).
- Progress as growth, not scores. The growth journey moves from Seed to Sunlight to Shoot to Bloom, counting check-ins, reflections and journaling.
- A warm visual language. Coral on white, soft rounded illustrations and an icon set for affirmations.
