ReNative
The website of ReNative, an open-source platform from Flexn for building apps for mobile, web, TVs, desktops, consoles and wearables from one development environment.
Overview
ReNative is an open-source development platform from Flexn for bootstrapping, developing and deploying apps for mobile, web, TVs, desktops, consoles, wearables and more from one development environment. Its website, renative.org, introduces the platform one capability at a time and leads developers into the docs.
My role
UX Designer. I designed the ReNative website.
Design approach
- Say what it is, then how to start. The first screen names the platform, explains it in one sentence and puts “Get started” next to the command that starts a project (npx rnv new), with the supported frameworks underneath.
- One capability per block. Templates, platforms, plugins, configurations, the CLI, the runtime, frameworks, build hooks and integrations each get a heading, one sentence, a code sample with a copy button and a link to read more.
- Show it instead of listing it. The platforms block shows the platforms’ logos, the bootstrap block has a short video, and the integrations block shows the services it connects to.
- Proof, then the way in. “Used by” shows the companies that build with ReNative, and the page ends with “Start developing now” and the command again.
- The docs one step away. The top bar links to the docs, references and API, with search beside them.
Key responsibilities
- Website structure and the order of its blocks
- First screen, capability blocks and the closing call to action
- Code samples, platform logos and company logos laid out in each block
